Today, we as a country, celebrated our 66th Republic Day. This is the day when our constitution was adopted and India was declared a Republic Nation. It is an extremely proud day for us and for me, of course. To watch this grand parade of the largest democracy in the world, refreshes and rejuvenates the memories of the colors and culture of my country.
The day started with hoisting of the national flag, followed by the National Anthem. Few soldiers who died showing their extraordinary valor were awarded Ashok Chakra (India’s highest peacetime military decoration).
The parade then commenced. It was highlighted with the display of various advanced and sophisticated weapon systems and vehicles like tank and rocket launchers, BrahMos missiles, 3D tactical radar systems, light helicopters etc. Then followed the spectacular parade of army men, marching synchronously to the beat of the drums. The theme of the parade was women empowerment, thus there was the march of women regiments from all three departments – army, naval and air force.
All the states showcased their own cultural traditions with a lively temperament, dancing and celebrating on various themes, be it the success of the maiden voyage on mars or depiction of unity and brotherhood or a vision of clean India. Lastly the motorbike formation and display of fighter planes captured all the attention.
Republic Day is very special to each one us as it reasserts the greatest strength of India as a powerful democratic nation where people are the true rulers of the country.
Jai Hind! (Long Live INDIA)
