Today I am going to tell you a story of a young man who defeated his destiny and created one on his own. I have known him for a long time, but recently I came to know about his life, the hardships he has faced and I couldn’t stop admiring his courage and determination to live on his own terms.
Let’s call him Prakash for the time being. Prakash had a rough childhood. He was born in a rusty Indian village, bereft of any modern facilities a man can think of. His mother died when he was a child. Being the only child, he took care of his father and his young sister. His father didn’t have a proper source of income. He studied hard and secured good percentage in graduation. He studied in the same college where my father happen to be the English professor.
Fondly remembering him, my father said Prakash used to ask many questions. He was curious, studious and hard working. But his destiny gave him many troubles. His father married second time after his mother died. Her new step mother didn’t treat him too well. But Prakash never felt bad about that. He didn’t say anything to her and always gave respect to her. There was a time when he couldn’t even pay for food or rent for hostel and left college and studies for some time in search of a job. The pressure of earning an income was high.
Once instead of taking exam he was sitting on a corner of an empty classroom. My father took him and made him take his exam. He also arranged for his messing. After his college, he applied for the CT¹ exam and become a teacher in a primary school. The salary wasn’t much, but due to his perseverance he continued to teach in that school and started taking tuition. With the little money he was earning, he used to give most of it to his family for buying daily essentials like groceries and other household things.
Once his father became seriously ill for which he provided all the money for medicines and other expenses. Due to his monetary help, his sister got married. His relationship with his stepmother also started to improve. He never used to answer her harshly even if she used to do it. Finally after many years, there was a change in her mind. Now she treats him at his own son.
When I came to know about him and his life, I was very moved. Not only he was courageous but he took everything in a positive spirit. He is a person who takes praise and criticism in equal spirit. His respect for elders, his teachers and fight with destiny by his hard work and determination made destiny bend before him. Now he is well settled in life and everybody likes him.
Life was not easy for him yet he lived life easily.

Who is the richest man?
